In additional to our primary research goals, educational outreach is also an important component of the mission of our group. To address these goals we have partnered with educational outreach coordinator Dr. Kara Lukin at National Jewish Health and Mrs. Jessica Taylor, a science teacher at East High School in Denver Colorado. Through this partnership, we have hosted high school students at National Jewish Health and have sent members of the lab to East High School to assist with classroom demonstrations. During the summer of 2012, Mrs. Jessica Taylor, worked full time in the Strong Lab at National Jewish Health, helping us to push forward projects pertaining to the genomic analysis of mycobacteria, and developed ideas to further enhance the high school science curriculum.
